Abstract. The poster is both a communication tool,
and a training and evaluation tool. Teachers, researchers and also business and
media representatives frequently use the poster. The present study aims to
present the results of a training activities developed with 28 students
(Bachelor and Master Degrees) from the Faculty of Physics and Faculty of
Psychology and Sciences of Education over two years. The students were trained
how to draw, evaluate and use the posters in their future teaching activities.
Students learned the rules to be followed to carry out and to evaluate a
poster. As practicum, the students were asked to evaluate the posters available
from various sources and to carry out such products for scientific or
educational activities. Evaluations completed by students show their interest
for poster evaluation and their lack of concern for an accurate design of the
poster.

Using
open source IT instruments in learning
Prezentarea caracteristicilor mijloacelor IT
discursul didactic, are la bază experienţa unor ţări
formare recunosc şi utilizează eficient fiecare instrument IT,
pornind de la caracteristicile specifice: sincronicitatea comunicării,
utilitatea schimbului de idei, rapiditatea învăţării, motivarea
formabililor, favorizarea diferitelor tipuri de învăţare. O
atenţie deosebită a fost acordată managementul procesului didactic.

Abstract. The topic of the article is the use of the virtual environments in
teaching Natural Sciences. Concerning the usage of the ICT in teaching, recent
studies show that these tools are efficient only if the involved staff have not
only good computer user skills, but also know how to use ICT in an effective
way when teaching their subject. The description of IT resources used in professional
self-development and teaching practice was based on the experience of other
countries (USA, Sweden, Germany,
Netherlands,
etc.).
In these countries especially the use of
Open Source computer-based-systems and free software packs are
promoted. Te focus in this paper is orientated to how the participants to the
training recognize and efficiently use every IT instrument, taking into account the special
characteristics: the synchronicity of communication, the utility of exchanging
ideas, the speed of learning, motivating learners, favoring various
learning types. A special interest was given the management of
teaching when using IT instruments.

Integrating modeling in active strategies of learning Biology.
Applicative study for 9th grade
Irina POP-PĂCURAR, Universitatea Babes-Bolyai, Cluj-Napoca, Romania
Felicia-Doina TIRLA, Colegiul Tehnic „Raluca Ripan” Cluj-Napoca, Romania
Rezumat. Preocuparea autorilor
Cuvinte
cheie. gândire critică; învăţare
activă; modelare.
Abstract. In order to integrate
ideas and information creatively, to motivate students and activate their
thinking, we have used in Biology classes a series of active methods, among
which the methods of critical thinking, which had very good results. Still, in
the case of some intuitive, abstract, more difficult topics, such as cellular
structure, microscopic processes, the transmission of hereditary features etc.,
the methods of critical thinking can be insufficient, because they stimulate
students’ imagination, whereas this does not always conform to real, correct
representations. We wanted to compensate this weakness through the integration
of the model method in the strategies of active learning. By using teaching
materials like models that provide information in more ways (visual, tactile,
auditory), the students can better infer phenomena, processes that happen at an
intangible, everyday life (cellular division, processes inside the living
organisms etc.). In this study we shall present the results obtained by
students in the Biology class after introducing the model technique in the
active learning strategies, results which have proved to be superior to those
obtained by traditional methods.

Abstract. Toys fit well in the constructivist model of learning,
having a gentle curve of knowledge achievement. Learners build their own
understanding. The ideas are understood through their relationships with other
ideas. The learning depends on the previous knowledge. School is not the only
place where people can learn. Many scientists have discovered science in
childhood, through toys. Learning with
toys can be well use with the project method. It was noted that the
children ‘daily’ game forms preconceived ideas which are in conflict with the
scientific ones. These preconceived ideas are usually naive, but very
persistent. The interactive virtual environment helps the students to correct
their misconceptions. In order to correct his/her wrong mental model, the
student explores a simulated model and achieves the contrast with the
scientific results and with reality. These interactive virtual environments are
better if they include certain computer game features. The computer games
usually have quests that must be accomplished, difficulties that must be passed.
Therefore the computer game requires mental skills and offers a quick feedback.
The methodology of our didactic study supposes a correlation between
narrative-research and action-research.

Perception of the students, future primary school teachers, on the experimental approach to Science

Abstract. Our study discus the results of the pedagogical experiment done with 27
students of the Psychology and Education Sciences faculty of Babeş-Bolyai
University, among them 18 preschool or primary school teachers and 9 students. The results show that: the subjects know
the value of the experimental observation; among them, a number of 13 students
can discriminate between “scientific experiment” and “systematic (experimental)
observation”, despite the ambiguous use of the nomenclature; with some
exceptions, they do not use or do not use properly the scientific experiment in
their didactic activity. We suggest some recommendation to the curriculum
managers and Teacher Training Institutions to revise the preschool curriculum.

Abstract. The Eurydice report Basic Indicators
on the Incorporation of ICT into European Education Systems realized between
2000 and 2001 prove that the percent of the teachers who use the Internet in the
classroom is less than the percent of those teachers who use the computers.
Starting from this observation we consider necessary to familiarize teachers
with the ways of using the Internet during classroom activities. We organized
this article in four parts. In the first part we observe that the presence of
the information communication technology in the real life make that computers
interfere between the traditional couple: teacher-students. In the second part
we present some details of the Eurydice report. In the third part we present
the history and the utility of the Internet in the real life. As a conclusion
of all these consideration, in the last part we give few examples of
incorporation the Internet in the classroom activities. Some of these activities
are: online contests, long distance contests, online courses, group activities,
Internet searching activities, the realization of essays, projects by using
information from Internet. A conclusion of this article is that the Internet
can be a valuable educational resource if teachers know how to take advantage
of it.

10. The Importance of Advisory
Boards in Undergraduate Chemistry Teaching
Dudley E. Shallcross, University of Bristol, Bristol, UK
Timothy G. Harrison, University of Bristol, Bristol, UK
Nicholas C. Norman, University of Bristol, Bristol, UK
Paul J. Wyatt, University of Bristol, Bristol, UK
Abstract: This paper investigates the
usefulness of advisory boards from the perspective of a University Chemistry
Department. It is shown that the impact of secondary school teachers on the
Teaching Advisory Board contributes positively to maintaining congruence
between post-16 pre-university courses and first year undergraduate courses.
Several examples are provided where this board has provided valuable direction
to the teaching at year 1. For a Chemistry (Science) department it is also
important to have an Industrial Advisory Board populated with active
industrialists. This board contributes towards the later stages of the degree
programme and ensures that graduates are well prepared for employment. A newer
advisory board, borne out of the creation of a Centre for Excellence in
Teaching and Learning shows how a diverse group can also be an effective advisory
board. The key element for success is having well defined terms of reference
and clear objectives.

Abstract. The New Curriculum for preschool education,
by the proposed learning activities, involves children through learning
activities proposed in several areas of experience and at the same time ensures
the unity and the necessary balance by addressing each area both in relation to
the other, and the whole Curriculum. Seen from this perspective, Natural
Science School Subject, which involves the acquisition of skills, abilities and
competencies associated with the approaches of scientific research
(observation, selection of significant elements of the irrelevant, generate
hypotheses, design and implementation of experiments, etc.) – harmonizes with
psychomotor, aesthetic, emotional/affective and creative domains. In this way,
the simple activities as observing beings, plants, animals, objects from the
close environment, could became a basis for the coordination and control of
body movements for the motor skills and handling finesse - the elements of
their knowledge. These activities make the link with aesthetic,
emotional/affective and creative fields, encouraging emotional experiences,
requesting imagination and developing the aesthetic sense. In Kindergarten
"Ion Creangă" Zalău, we carried out an integrate approach
of the mentioned fields, lasting a month. In this period we were practicing and
developing the children practice practical abilities/skills during Science. The
achievements of children, their personal imaginative, emotional and actionable
responses specific to aesthetic-creative area, these all encourage us to
persevere, increasing frequency of these activities.
